The Science and Innovation Group (SIG) Data Science and Computing Technology Officer (DSCTO) will be a key adviser and leader in the development and application of Data Science (DS) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) technology at the Bureau. On a day-to-day basis, the role will oversee the DS and HPC technology development work done in support of the Bureau's SIG R&D activity. The role will implement best practice and ensure currency with industry trends, practices, and technologies in collaboration with the Bureau's Data and Digital Group (DDG). The role is responsible to deliver SIG DS and HPC leadership on technology related issues, management of the technology research ensuring the alignment of Bureau's technology vision and strategy.

The DSCTO is responsible for tracking new technology developments in areas of interest to the Bureau to ensure that it maintains a technological edge within the weather, climate and Earth system Enterprise, analysing and improving upon technology standards and maintaining Bureau's awareness of new technologies. Hence the role is responsible for maintaining SIG technological long-term plan and its implementation, defining the requirements for new DS and HPC technology implementations, and communicating them to key business stakeholders in the public, private and academic sectors in collaboration with DDG.
